Abstract :
The authors describe a project which originated as part of a Teaching and Learning Technology Programme phase II (TLTP-2) initiative, WISDEN. The primary aim of WISDEN was to produce computer-based learning (CBL) material in the field of software specification and design. This was a consortium-based activity which included seven academic sites and a commercial partner. CBL material was produced in the areas of: structured methods; formal methods; object-orientation; and real-time system design. At Glamorgan, the task was to produce CBL material to teach data modelling, in particular, entity-relationship modelling, normalisation and entity life histories. This has been a three-year project during which time the development teams have undertaken some trials of CBL material with groups of students that has involved evaluation of the student learning experience
