Abstract
The author gives a brief history of the development of liberal arts education, explaining what is meant by the term ´liberal´. The authors objectives for a contemporary ´liberating´ education are briefly outlined. The author believes that it is possible to make a credible translation of the traditional liberal arts program, with its heritage of success and prestige, into precisely the kind of contemporary liberal/liberating education modern technological universities are well positioned to provide
