Abstract :
It is pointed out that effective maintenance of software requires an understanding of the application domain. The proposed approach is based on the assumption that a model which links the concepts of the application domain to their implementation will assist in tracing the changing user requirements in the software system and in identifying what is to be changed and why, what needs to be carried out in order to implement the change, and how the existing system will be affected as a result. The application of this approach to the maintenance of an object-oriented programming environment is discussed
