Abstract
Summary form only given. A multimedia platform over an ATM network used for teaching purposes, on campuses or at distance sites is introduced. The platform allows presentation of classes either live or from recordings and performing of specific laboratory training on remote stands. The presented environment covers the following aspects of the tele-educational process: lecturing, laboratory training and students´ evaluation recording. Remote analog circuit experiments can be conducted by making use of programmable analog/digital acquisition/distribution computer extensions. Specialized sensors and actuators can extend the spanning of the application domain to related disciplines. The Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) has been used as the underlying distributed processing environment of this platform. It is the most suitable architecture for a remote application like the tele-laboratory
