Abstract :
A new thermal reference model provides the foundation for a more flexible approach to design and optimization, forcing uninterrupted coherence between electromagnetic behavior and predefined thermal conditions. Design and optimization of HF magnetic components usually involves a number of trade-offs between performance functions. This investigates the relationships between some of these factors by direct implementation of the thermal reference model and practical reference data. Performance, in terms of maximum power rating, power density, total losses, efficiency and leakage impedance, are determined as a function of scaling transformer parameters, while controlling the temperature rise simultaneously
