Abstract
We present an analysis of the differential-algebraic equations, or DAEs, for electrical power systems (PS) and their behavior around singularities. The singularity induced bifurcation (SIB) of the second order PS DAEs may cause an instability of the system. This instability is due to a divergence of one or more of the eigenvalues of the DAE model through infinity. Several illustrative examples for various power systems are presented.
