Abstract :
A fuzzy expert system to assess the bioaccumulation risk in gold mining regions of the World has been developed. Since the subject is fraught with uncertainties about the effects of natural variables, the knowledge base accommodates imprecise data based on field observations. Heuristic equations are used to mimic the reasoning of an expert, conferring elasticity to the degree of belief calculated for a conclusion. In this application, linguistic terms have the same practical effect as complex mathematical models which usually demand high costs, large data and much skill to quantify the relationship between each factor and bioaccumulation. Rapid diagnosis can bring rapid decisions
