Abstract
A gyrotron backward wave oscillator (gyro-BWO) operating in the TM11 mode with large-orbit electron beam is proposed. Starting conditions of the operating mode and some possible competing modes are studied by using linear theories. Numerical results show that low velocity ratio is more suitable for the TM11 mode operation and is also helpful for suppressing the competition from the TE modes.
