Abstract
This contribution presents an adaptive MIMO transmission scheme for packet-switched broadband OFDM wireless communications with bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM). Combining EESM-based link adaptation and per antenna rate control (PARC), the proposed scheme adapts the MIMO transmission method between beamforming and spatial multiplexing to the spatial correlation of the encountered wireless channel. This scheme aims to maximize the average bandwidth efficiency for a predefined target packet error ratio (PER) and transmit energy. Moreover, additional performance gains are demonstrated when adaptive bit-loading algorithm is implemented.
