Abstract :
The developed torque of reluctance motors depends on the inductance space distribution and the current waveforms. Generally, the inductance distribution includes the space harmonics, which have the major effects on the torque ripple under the sinusoidal current drive. The torque ripple can be compensated for by modifying the instantaneous current waveforms. A combination of space harmonics of inductance and time harmonics of current is studied in the paper from the standpoint of instantaneous torque. The analysis shows the combination of space and time harmonics can improve the torque/current2 ratio, while the torque ripple can be suppressed within a reasonable range. From this result, the design of stator and rotor teeth is examined under considerations of applied current waveforms
