Abstract :
We describe a unique perspective on the value of using objects in system development as a vehicle for “nominating-up” design options for decisions that are then the basis for requirements. We show how using objects preserves options capitalizing on available system knowledge by enabling the scheduling of design decisions to coincide with the availability of requisite knowledge. We also present the advantages of “nominating-up” design options for customer decision, an approach that contrasts completely with the more traditional model of customers “imposing-down” so-called “what” requirements in advance of any “how” design option trades. A primary benefit is seen to be that the “nominate-up” identification of options is a primary means to achieve the needed system knowledge that the use of objects can then effectively employ
