Abstract :
Media synchronization has become an important issue in the distributed multimedia environment. One of the major obstacles in media synchronization is delay variation, which mainly depends on the load of the system. In this paper, we propose an idea for strict temporal synchronization control using a method of end-to-end delay monitoring to estimate future delay in a delay compensation protocol. The resynchronization mechanism using the estimated jitter value by Kalman filtering is introduced for retrieval offset adjustment and data unit skipping control. From the simulation result, it shows that the probability of the jitter caused by time delay variation is reshaped with a reduction of variance, resulting in an improvement of synchronization performance as indicated by the reduction in presentation deviation
