  • Abstract
This paper presents a two-switch boost chopper with a sinusoidal current shaping and power factor correction scheme, which is applied for driving an electronic ballast using frequency series and parallel resonant inverter. In this paper, the working principle of “one-converter type” electronic ballast with power factor correction and active filtering functions is described by using the equivalent circuit of each operation mode, together with operation analysis. The performance evaluations of “one-converter type” electronic ballast with high-frequency resonant inverter are illustrated and discussed in experiments. As a result, it is revealed that the harmonic distortion of the input current obtained by the proposed electronic ballast satisfies the maximum limit of IEC 1000-3-2 class C sufficiently. A high power factor of 0.99 is realized
