  • Abstract
This paper presents the development of a predictive fuzzy handoff algorithm that provides high performance for line-of-sight (LOS) and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) microcellular conditions. The fuzzy algorithm predicts the future signal sample which along with the present sample value is used to determine when a handoff is necessary. The performance of the fuzzy algorithm is evaluated in terms of premature and delay handoffs in the case of LOS transmission, and the handoff response time in the case of NLOS transmission, and are compared to current handoff algorithms utilized in TDMA/FDMA systems
