Abstract :
Multiphase supply system has potential benefits than three phase system in transmission and some interest has also grown in the area of multi-phase a.c. drives. These a.c. drives possess several advantages over conventional three-phase drives. In this paper four multi-phase induction motors are modelled for 3-phase, 5-phase, 6-phase and 12-phase in Matlab/Simulink environment. The performance based comparative analysis has been carried out under off-load , on-load and fault conditions. Simulink model is based on first order differential equations using clark´s transformations. Flux oriented scheme has been used to analyze and design the simulink model. The higher phase order machine gives much better results than the lower phase order in terms of steady state and dynamic conditions of electromechanical torque, speed of the motor and under on load conditions.
