Abstract :
We investigate the effectiveness of the data partitioning approach in H.264 for HDTV terrestrial transmission with Reed Solomon (RS) and turbo codes. Results show that the equal error protection (EEP) scheme provides the best video quality at low SNR values and at high SNR, EEP and unequal error protection (UEP1and UEP2) schemes provide the best video quality. Therefore, it can be concluded that the data partitions defined in H.264 are not suitable if used for HDTV terrestrial broadcasting.
