Abstract :
A low cost satellite data reply link is presented which may be used to interactively demand the broadcast of data or video “direct to home”. Due to the burst nature of the reply packets, rapid acquisition to the signal is necessary. Frequency detection, demodulation and clock recovery algorithms are presented which have been successfully implemented in real time using digital signal processing (DSP). Signal acquisition, demodulation and clock recovery synchronisation are achieved within just 1 ms (32 symbols), allowing message data to be successfully decoded for forward error correction and off-line processing
