Abstract :
Some interesting features of four-wave mixing (FWM) of strong picosecond optical pulses in passive waveguides are reported. To obtain maximum frequency conversion efficiency in passive waveguides, it has been shown that, if the absorption coefficient of the waveguide is not significantly saturated, there exists an optimum waveguide length and shorter pulse widths are preferred; on the other hand, if the absorption coefficient of the waveguide is significantly saturated, shorter waveguide lengths are preferred and an optimum pulse width exists.
