Abstract
This paper reports on a study determining the capacitance from given permittivity patterns and describes the image reconstruction method for electrical capacitance tomography (ECT). The model described in this paper is a square object with 8 electrodes. The finite difference method and Gauss´s law are used for calculating numerically the capacitance of the system. Linear backprojection is then utilized for the image reconstruction. To improve the image qualities, an iterative algorithm and thresholding are applied. The experimental results show that the capacitance is readily evaluated and the reconstructed images closely resemble the original images.
