Abstract
SDR is a technique where the physical layer processing of a communications modem is implemented in software. Software implementations of modems enable Cognitive Radios (CR) that can sense their environment, select interference-free frequencies, and dynamically change modulation properties. This special session explores hardware and software technologies required to implement SDR and CR systems including processor design, software design of communication systems, programmable transceiver techniques, and methodologies for implementing systems.
