Abstract :
The paper describes information theoretic capacity of orthogonal pulse based modulation schemes for time hopping ultra wideband (TH-UWB) systems over a multiple access and multipath fading channel. Orthogonal pulse based modulation schemes such as pulse shape modulation (PSM), biorthogonal PSM (BPSM) and a combination of orthogonal pulse position modulation (OPPM) and BPSM have been proposed for reducing inter symbol interference (ISI) and multiple access interference (MAI) as well as for improving system performance. System capacity of TH-UWB systems can be increased by employing these modulations for higher level modulation schemes. The capacity of OPPM-BPSM outperforms PSM and BPSM schemes over a multipath fading channel. The complete mathematical analysis and theoretical simulation results are provided in detail.
