Wiki Technology as a Scaffolding Tool in Education

The purpose of this paper is to reveal how a new Wiki technology- Wiki Scratchpad could be utilized as a scaffolding tool to enhance students´ project-based learning (PBL). This new collaborative learning platform allows students to design and display their projects online through cooperative group work. On this platform, students could share and discuss their project ideas. They also were able to access other groups´ work while the instructors could make comments and monitor the discussion process. The use of Wiki Scratchpad in a course of “Multimedia design and production” was demonstrated in this paper as a case study. Students´ responses regarding using Wiki Scratchpad were reported and some suggestions about Wiki Scratchpad as a scaffolding tool in education were proposed.
