  • Abstract
The authors report on a full-color active matrix liquid crystal display with night vision goggles (NVG) compatibility. The display was a 5-in-diagonal high-resolution triad (RGB) color pixel with 80×180 color groups per inch (H/V). It had a specially designed high-brightness backlight with low profile and the NVG characteristics. The color coordinates of the unit were almost identical to the display without a NVG filter, preserving the red color coordinates. This display had full avionic characteristics like high contrast at high ambient light and extended temperature range. The criteria for class B as defined by the MIL-L-84762A was achieved, with an NRb value lower than 2.2×10-9
