Abstract
The authors present a characterization of timing jitter in terms of its impact on the frequency spectrum at the output of the sampler, or range gate, in a pulsed or pulsed Doppler radar signal processing chain. This representation is especially useful when performing signal processing analyses using frequency-domain methods. It is also useful when trying to balance timing jitter requirements with transmitter amplitude and/or phase noise sidebands, or other phenomena that cause spreading of target and clutter power over frequency. Particular emphasis is placed on characterizing timing jitter effects when the jitter is correlated from pulse to pulse
