Abstract :
National Grid has been installing Numerical Busbar Protection (BBP) systems at its 400 kV, 275 kV and 132 kV double busbar substations for approximately ten years. This Paper investigates the design, operational and lifetime management experiences/challenges associated with moving to these solutions. The paper will consider these challenges under the following five categories: (1) Policy and application design (2) Operational experience to date (3) Contingency plans following unavailability (4) Spares holding and post commissioning support (5)Extendibility, Compatibility and Asset Life.
