Abstract :
A new coding theory is established to detect and correct errors efficiently in mass memories. A novel error detection and correction code, macrocode, is presented. The macrocode features encoding a large amount of data into a separate code, and detecting as well as correcting multiple and symmetric errors in mass memories. The macrocode detectability and correctability of multiple and symmetric errors are upper-bounded to a block size of mass memories (usually 512-4 Kbytes)
