Abstract
The modeling of power transformer faults and its application to the performance evaluation of digital protection algorithms are the objectives of this study. This paper presents an algorithm that can be used to simulate an internal turn-to-earth fault occurring on either the primary side or the secondary side of the transformer. The method of simulating external faults occurring at the transformer terminals is also explained. Simulation results showing the validity of the model are presented
