Abstract :
In this paper, the factors that have been critical in shaping the technology and product evolution of present day power network P&C (protection and control) systems are described and discussed. The paper further discusses products which, if developed and made commercially available, would provide significant added value to electric utilities by making optimum use of present-day technology. The paper also analyses possible obstacles that are likely to be found in the adoption of such products and proposes solutions to overcome those obstacles
