Abstract :
As the vertical coefficient of consolidation is uncertain random variable and with variability, so the degree of consolidation cannot be a defined value, certainly with the randomness, it is only a probability estimate for the actual consolidation process. There are several methods of probability analysis, but the Monte Carlo method is well suitable for analysis of probability of the consolidation. A saturated soil ground is simulated in detail to produce one-dimensional consolidation analyzed by the Monte Carlo method. According to research needs, the spatial probabilistic characteristics of the coefficient of vertical consolidation are studied. A sensitivity analysis of the degree of consolidation to uncertain parameters is presented. Probabilistic characteristics for one-dimensional consolidation are studied in detail. The study shows that probability distribution type of the coefficient of vertical consolidation has a considerable influence on degree of consolidation. A simple-to-use charts are provided in the end of the paper.
