Abstract :
In this paper, a varactor loaded tunable miniature microstrip square patch resonator is proposed and is investigated by simulation and measurement. Varactor diodes are embedded along the edges of the patch to realize the proposed tuning capability. The size of the square patch resonator is reduced remarkably by a shorting via and loading effect of the shunt capacitance. Consequently, the tuning range of over 30% and resonator size of 0.1 wavelength are achieved.
