Abstract
Intelligent systems achieve their goals by interacting with their environment. During this interaction the system exchanges information with its environment. Understanding the amount of information exchanged during the interaction and the aspects that affect this amount enables a better design and understanding of the interaction of intelligent systems with their environment. Based on communication theory, a model is developed that identifies the basic factors that impact the amount of information processed by an intelligent system as it interacts with its environment.
