  • Abstract
This paper presents a design and analysis of a resonant DC-link inverter feeding a permanent magnet synchronous motor drive. This resonant inverter consists of two major parts: a resonant converter and an inverter. The resonant inverter is operated at a higher frequency and has higher efficiency than traditional inverters. A 3-phase 4 kW 18 kHz resonant DC-link inverter has been constructed and successfully tested to feed a permanent magnet synchronous drive based on a field-oriented control. Details of the design, analysis, simulation, and implementation of the whole system are described. Experimental case studies that correlate simulation and measurement results are provided. The experimental results not only validate the theoretical development but also prove that this new system has better performance than traditional systems. A new approach for designing a resonant DC-link inverter feeding a permanent magnet synchronous motor has been provided in this paper
