Abstract
This paper analyzes the circumstances, process and means by which networks developed in Argentina before the rise of Internet as a commercial alternative. Through interviews with the major players, private newsletters, early emails, news reports and institutional archives, we attempt to trace a factual chronology that involves a matrix of individuals, organizations and technologies from 1985 to 1984.
