Abstract :
A segmented coupling eye-shape(SCES) near-field UHF RFID reader antenna is proposed and designed for item level identification with 15 cm read range and 8 cm read width. The bandwidth of the SCES antenna is around 11 MHz(860 ~ 871 MHz) under the condition of VSWR less than 2.0, which can cover the Europe standard (865 MHz - 868 MHz) completely. In addition, SCES antenna has low gain, less than 2.8 dBi, which is smaller than conventional far-field reader antenna (typical 6 dBi). Finally, in the read range measurement by using the impinj UHF button near field tag, 16.1 cm is obtained. It matches well with simulated results by using Ansoft HFSS.
