Abstract
The GCC Interconnector is providing the backbone transmission structure for connection of power systems of Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE and Oman. It can face extreme dynamic disturbances leading up to the loss-of-stability. Detection of this dangerous condition is based on various solutions generally referred as out-of-step protection. Presented paper discuss recent developments in this area, analyses possible loss-of-stability modes for the GCC Interconnector, and, finally, address some uncertainties related to the dynamic system analysis and setting selection tasks for the out-of-step protection.
