Active stator, an innovative variable speed drive topology

This paper has presented an innovative variable speed drive topology with close integration of power electronics and rotating machine. A control algorithm has been described with practical results included to demonstrate successful operation. The implementation is currently at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 5, “Technology component and/or basic technology subsystem validation in a relevant environment.” Successful completion of back to back testing of the APM demonstrator will advance the TRL to 6, “Technology system/subsystem model or prototype demonstration in a relevant environment.”
