Abstract
The JVT H.264/AVC standard is designed in response to growing need for higher compression of video for wide range of applications such as videoconferencing, digital storage media, television broadcasting, internet streaming, and real-time video communication. It has significant improvement over all previous video compression standards. In this paper, we provide comparison of the coding performance improvement of H.264 over MPEG-2, MPEG-4 ASP and ITU-T H.263 for low bit rate video coding. Our test results show that H.264 can achieve significant coding gains over existing standards for sequences of range of typical content for low & high latency applications.
