Abstract :
A scheme for measuring the micromaser linewidth, based on monitoring the nondissipative decoherence of the cavity field is proposed. If the micromaser dynamics can be well approximated by a phase diffusion process, the spectrum is Lorentzian with linewidth equal to diffusion rate. The summarized basic steps of the scheme are described in the paper.
