Abstract :
The Sandankai System Method is utilized for disaster education to improve communication of disaster risk at the community level. A case study was carried out in the Samcheok High School, City of Samcheok, Gangwon Province, Korea. The case study demonstrates how students who experienced the disaster in 2002 in their local community can create disaster scenarios and collaboratively develop an action plan for their community. The Sandankai Method consists of the following steps: definition of the major premises of the disaster situation, development of disaster scenarios and an action plan by completion of a Sandankai chart, collaborative discussion among members of each group, and presentation of the disaster scenarios and action sub-plan of each group. The Sandankai chart has three time-phases: within one to two days, within one to two weeks and within one to two months, after a disaster.
