Abstract
We survey the steps involved in performing computational science simulations on the grid and identify requirements specific to grids for computational science. Building on this, we determine features that these kinds of grids should possess in order to support secure authentication as well as effective deployment, execution and scheduling of applications. We evaluate recently proposed approaches that address these issues and suggest new solutions for user authentication and grid scheduling.
