Abstract
The application of modern signal-processing techniques to power system protection is discussed, and those aspects of signal processing that are unique to the fast, real-time operation necessary in electric power systems are discussed. Two examples are given which show that the signals encountered in electric power systems can contain components of several frequencies, including the nominal frequency, its harmonics, and other high frequencies.<>
