Abstract :
Stratospheric telecommunication is expected to be one of the most promising wireless broadband telecommunication strategies in the next decade. It has been designed to have large capacity, broad bandwidth, flexible network forming ability, huge coverage, integrated service ability and definite QoS support. On the other hand, the fourth generation (4G) mobile communication has already been proposed and incurs an ardent discussion with the deployment of the third generation (3G) mobile communication in many countries. The huge bandwidth, ubiquitous computing and seamless multimedia services will almost realize communication which meets the "anytime, anywhere, to anyone, with any way" requirement. We describe the stratospheric telecommunication and its contribution to 4G. The reason and advantages are stated and a specific architecture is given to help further in-depth understanding of the relationship. Some applications are also illustrated.
