Abstract :
In recent years recovery voltage measurements have been promoted as a method to characterise insulation systems, in particular for diagnostic purposes. In this paper we analyse the recovery voltage method and demonstrate that the method is closely related to other dielectric response techniques such as measurements of the polarisation/depolarisation current or measurement of the complex permittivity (ε\´(ω)-ε"(ω)) in the frequency domain. In particular we investigate methods to calculate the dielectric response function, f(t), from measurements of recovery voltages. Several numerical routs are explored. The calculated results are compared with response functions determined from depolarisation currents measurements on mass impregnated cellulose cable insulation
