Abstract :
The effective medium theory is applied to model a layered medium substrate. Four equivalent models are developed to calculate the effective permittivity and permeability, namely, (a) Parallel plate capacitor model; (b) Model based on the same reflection and transmission coefficients; (c) Model based on the same reflection coefficient; and (d) Model based on the same transmission coefficient. Finally, this paper numerically compares these four equivalent models for the layered media. On the low-frequency (LF) limit, the analytical expressions of the effective dielectric constant are derived.
