Abstract :
Summary form only given. The short-circuited line method for the determination of the complex permittivity requires solving a transcendental equation. The authors discuss a numerical procedure for solving the Robert-Von Hippel equation which makes it possible to distinguish close solutions. It finds any desired number of solutions without needing a previous survey to select initial approximations to the roots. It is easy to implement and does not require large computational power. Execution times are reasonably low. The algorithm has been tested both numerically and against experimental results with several organic liquids.<>
