Title :
Integration of Smart Card and Gabor Filter Method based Fingerprint Matching for Faster Verification
Abstract :
With identity fraud in our society reaching unprecedented proportions and with an increasing emphasis on the emerging automatic personal identification applications, biometrics-based verification, especially fingerprint-based identification and Smart cards are receiving a lot of attention. This paper mainly focuses on the new idea of integrating Smart card and Gabor Filter method based Fingerprint matching. The proposed filter-based algorithm uses a bank of Gabor filters to capture both local and global details in a fingerprint as a compact fixed length FingerCode. This FingerCode is stored in the Smart card. The Smart card consists of a user ID and FingerCode. Once the Smart card is inserted into the system (PC interfaced with Smart card reader), it will ask for the user ID and a live fingerprint. The fingerprint matching will be successful only if the Euclidean distance between the FingerCode of the live fingerprint and stored FingerCode of the Smart card is equal to zero. Hence, the system is ready to perform the required operation. This project had achieved greater accuracy, faster verification (One to One Fingerprint matching), and highly fool proof. The total simulation is performed using MatLAB and submitted as a project work.
