Abstract :
Two major architectural challenges of creating ultrafast optical time division multiplexed (OTDM) multi-access networks are that they operate with long propagation delays relative to packet transmission times (i.e. there are many packets in flight in the network) and there is limited processing that can be performed at the 100 Gb/s or higher transmission rates. HLAN is an OTDM network architecture that we believe is suitable for implementing a ultrafast integrated services network capable of operating over the distances that short pulse optical signals can propagate (<1000 km)
