Abstract
The Persian Gulf conflict has led top level military decision makers to conclude that increased joint C4I interoperability is necessary to improve the decision making process, to process the increased amounts of information, and to synchronize combat capabilities. This paper discusses the reasons for making modeling and simulation (M&S) interoperable with C4I systems. It discusses the various approaches for interfacing M&S with C4I systems and it describes some of the major accomplishments, ongoing efforts and planned efforts. It concludes with a discussion of some of the major challenges
