Abstract
We have demonstrated third generation (3G) cellular phone signal optical transmission over a gigabit Ethernet passive optical network (GE-PON) system using 20km single mode fiber (SMF) with 30dB optical loss budget. Cellular phone signals were wavelength-division-multiplexed with GE-PON signals. We have confirmed the possibility of accommodating CDMA2000 1xEV-DO signals residing in 800MHz band on existing optical access networks.
