Abstract
The author summarizes some high-frequency solutions in backscattering problems, based on PO (physical optics) and ECM (equivalent current method) integrals for conducting bodies. Analytical solutions derived from evaluations of the PO integral and equivalent current methods for flat plates with polygonal and circular edges are discussed. Backscattering from singly curved surfaces, including finite cylindrical screens of arbitrary cross section with edges or inflection points and cone tips, is analyzed using asymptotic approximations of the PO integrals and the physical theory of diffraction (PTD). As an example, the monostatic radar cross section of a 2-D perfectly conducting airfoil, modeled by four cylindrical screens and a strip, is presented. Results calculated by analytical PO+PTD solutions are compared with numerical calculations of G. Leflour et al. (1990) by using the finite element method.<>
